Who can use this form

You need to use this form if you want a tax exemption when registering a vehicle you got as the beneficiary of an estate. You need to have the executor or administrator of the estate complete the form on your behalf.

What you need to do

  1. Get a copy of the will or probate document naming the executor or administrator of the estate.
  2. Get the executor or administrator of the estate to complete the form.
  3. Visit Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles to register the vehicle.
  4. During the vehicle registration process, provide the certification of registration for the vehicle that has been signed over to you, a copy of the will or probate document and the sworn statement.

How long it takes

The tax exemption is applied when you register your vehicle.

There is no cost to submit the form.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • year, make and model of vehicle
  • vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • completed certificate of registration signed by the executor or administrator of the estate
  • completed Application for Transfer Form
  • copy of the will and probate document naming the executor or administrator of the estate
  • executor or administrator of the estate available to complete the form
  • lawyer, commissioner of oaths or notary available to witness the signatures of all executors or administrators of the estate (if you’re not having the signatures witnessed at Registry of Motor Vehicles)
