Register for the Nova Scotia Guard
Register to volunteer with the Nova Scotia Guard to help provide support during an emergency.
The Government of Nova Scotia is creating the Nova Scotia Guard to help the province during emergency situations and extreme weather events (like wildfires, floods, blizzards and hurricanes). The guard is a group of volunteers that’s ready to support the province during and after an emergency.
The guard needs volunteers:
- with special skills and training to do things like fight fires, operate heavy equipment and provide medical assistance
- to help with general activities (like delivering food and other essential goods, sorting donations, shovelling snow, helping in evacuation centres, and providing comfort and personal support to affected communities)
Enhanced Criminal Record Check
Volunteers 18 years and older must agree to complete an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) as part of the registration process. This will be completed free of charge.
Training
After a volunteer registers (and completes a Enhanced Criminal Record Check), the Government of Nova Scotia provides an orientation and training for their role.
