Dissolve a business name (operating name) on behalf of a business or non-profit
Businesses and non-profits need to notify Registry of Joint Stock Companies when they dissolve their business name (operating name). The business or non-profit isn’t dissolved, just the business name (operating name).
Use the Dissolution Form to notify Registry of Joint Stock Companies that your business name (operating name) has dissolved.
You need to notify Registry of Joint Stock Companies that your business name (operating name) has dissolved or you’re no longer using the business name (operating name). If Registry of Joint Stock Companies doesn’t receive notification and you don’t pay your renewal fee by the date required, the registry revokes (cancels) your Certificate of Registration and changes the status of the registration to ‘revoked for non-payment’.

Who can use this form
Businesses and non-profits that have a registered business name (operating name) need to use this form to dissolve their business name (operating name).
What you need to do
- Complete the Dissolution Form online.
- Check the form for details on all required supporting documents.
- Submit your completed form and supporting documents.
- Registry of Joint Stock Companies cancels the Certificate of Registration. The registry also changes the status of the registration to ‘dissolved’.
How long it takes
It should take 1 to 2 weeks to update your records. It can take longer if more information is needed or if your form hasn’t been filled in correctly.

There is no cost to submit the form.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- lawyer, notary public or commissioner of oaths available to swear the form
- officer or director of the business or non-profit available to sign the form
