Nova Scotia is now collecting race-based data in healthcare through the Fair Care Project. Providing your racial information to the healthcare system is a voluntary opt-in process.
Protecting your information
Provincial privacy and security protocols protect your race-based information. Your racial identification isn't included on your Health Card or used to identify you in any way.
Before you start
Make sure you have your Health Card number.
You can’t access the opt-in form online if you’re outside Canada or your computer’s IP address is outside Canada.
You can opt in using the Health Card Renewal Form (PDF) if it’s time for you to renew your Health Card and you’re unable to opt in online. You can also opt in when you apply for a Health Card or when you register a birth.
