Simon d’Entremont

Simon d’Entremont was appointed Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy and Mines in July 2018.

Biography

Simon started working with the Government of Nova Scotia in 2012 as Deputy Minister of the Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.

Before joining the Government of Nova Scotia, Simon worked for the Government of Canada for 17 years with Health Canada, Industry Canada and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). Simon began his career as a stockbroker with the investment firm Scotia MacLeod Inc.

Current role

Deputy Minister, Department of Energy and Mines

The Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy and Mines is responsible for leading the development of programs and policies to help the province reach its climate change goals. The deputy minister is also responsible for supporting business growth and attracting investment in the energy and mineral resource sectors.

Responsibilities include:

  • helping Nova Scotia reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • supporting homeowners and businesses that want to become more energy efficient
  • promoting offshore growth and mineral resource development
  • keeping electricity rates stable and affordable
  • regulating and promoting the development of Nova Scotia’s tidal industry
