Dr. Robert Strang
Dr. Robert Strang was appointed Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Department of Health Promotion and Protection in August 2007 and continues this role in the Department of Health and Wellness as of January 2011.
Biography
Robert began his career in Nova Scotia’s healthcare system in 1999 as the Medical Officer of Health for the Capital District Health Authority. He joined the Government of Nova Scotia in 2007 as the acting Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Department of Health Promotion and Protection before becoming Chief Medical Officer of Health.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Department of Health and Wellness provides leadership, strategic and operational direction and guidance for prevention and control of communicable diseases.
Responsibilities include:
- providing advice and recommendations for health promotion, communicable diseases and injury prevention
- advising the minister and Nova Scotia Health Authority on public health measures under the Health Protection Act
- making sure public health is included in discussions and decisions on health services and patient care
- advising the Department of Environment and Climate Change on environmental public health issues and how the Department of Environment and Climate Change needs to support health protection
- representing the Government of Nova Scotia at municipal, provincial and national levels to help make sure department policies, programs, standards and decisions reflect current evidence-based information and policy trends
