Craig Beaton
Craig Beaton was appointed Deputy Minister of the Department of Community Services in May 2024.
Biography
With over 20 years of experience in public service Craig has served in a number of roles within government during that time. He assumed the role of Associate Deputy Minister, Department of Health and Wellness in fall 2021 and added the responsibility as Associate Deputy Minister, Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment in fall 2022.
Before being appointed as associate deputy minister, Craig spent the prior 4 years working in multiple role within Department of Health and Wellness. He served as Senior Executive Director, Corporate Policy, Planning and Process as well as Senior Executive Director of EHS, Client Service and Contract Management. He was also part of the Executive team leading during the Covid 19 pandemic. Prior to his time at Health, Craig had worked for a number of years with the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage in a variety of roles.
Craig has a Masters of Public Administration from Dalhousie University and a Bachelors of Arts degree from St Francis Xavier University. Craig is a community volunteer serving on non profit boards as well as a minor sports coach for over a decade.
Deputy Minister, Department of Community Services
The deputy minister is responsible for a wide range of social services that are delivered directly by the department or by organizations receiving funding from the department.
Responsibilities Include:
- carrying out government policies
- implementing decisions made by the minister and the Executive Council
- providing advice and information to help the minister make decisions
- securing the necessary resources to enable the department to carry out its mandate
- overseeing all aspects of the administration of the department
