Mentoring for municipalities
Mentoring program for municipalities and how it works.
When a newly hired director of finance doesn’t have municipal experience, the Department of Finance and Treasury Board contacts the chief administrative officer (CAO) and offers access to the mentoring program.
Mentoring will help the new municipal director of finance become more familiar with municipal government. By speaking with a former director of finance, the new director will learn how municipalities function and operate.
Mentors will meet with the new director of finance for up to 3 hours, to a maximum of 5 meetings.
Topics for discussion include:
- fund accounting
- council reports
- director of finance responsibilities
- tax sales
- budgeting process
- chief administrative officer (CAO) and director of finance relationship
- year-end working papers
- non-consolidated and consolidated financial statements
The Department of Finance and Treasury Board pays the mentor for their service. There’s no cost to the municipality for the mentoring program.
