Office of Service Efficiency: About us
What we do
The Office of Service Efficiency helps government identify and remove regulatory burdens for businesses and citizens. We monitor regulatory impact (time and money) of legislative and regulatory proposals and process change. We also advise on best practice in regulation, regulatory reform and service effectiveness to make it easier for businesses and citizens to understand and comply with regulations.
The office also helps make sure that the health, safety and wellbeing of people, communities and the environment are protected when regulatory burden is reduced.
Responsibilities
We're responsible for:
- helping reduce regulatory burden for businesses and citizens
- identifying and measuring the regulatory impact (time and money) for businesses and citizens
- making recommendations to improve or eliminate regulations and administrative processes that create unnecessary regulatory burden for businesses and citizens
- helping small businesses and start-ups understand and navigate municipal, provincial and federal regulations
Who we are
The Office of Service Efficiency has about 15 staff in Halifax.
Priorities
Our priorities are:
- assessing the business impact of proposed regulations and estimating costs and savings
- identifying regulatory improvements that help support economic recovery and help businesses grow
- supporting government priorities (like healthcare and housing) by helping reduce regulatory
- working with federal, provincial and municipal governments to bring different levels of regulations in line with each other
- helping new businesses find, understand and comply with municipal, provincial and federal regulations
