Apply for funding to support green infrastructure projects: Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program
The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (Green Environmental Quality Infrastructure stream) supports investment in infrastructure projects. Municipalities, towns and villages can apply for funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program to help reduce the cost of infrastructure projects that provide clean drinking water, treat wastewater or reduce the release of pollutants to the environment. You can apply from 4 February to 1 April 2022.
Apply for funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (Green Environmental Quality Infrastructure stream) to support the cost of infrastructure projects in your municipality, town or village.
You need to use the funding for infrastructure projects that provide clean drinking water, treat wastewater or reduce the release of pollutants to the environment.
Funding amount
The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program may fund up to 73.33% of eligible project costs for each project. The applicant needs to fund the balance of the project costs.
Eligible projects
Eligible projects include:
- wastewater and stormwater projects focused on wastewater treatment plants, conveyance systems and stormwater (projects that result in compliance with relevant provincial regulations and requirements are given priority)
- drinking water projects focused on water treatment facilities and distribution systems (projects that resolve long-term drinking water advisories or result in drinking water that meets or exceeds the relevant provincial standards are given priority)
- solid waste and remediation projects focused on diverting materials from solid waste management facilities by increasing capacity to dispose of materials or remediate contaminated sites
Reporting requirements
If you’re approved for funding from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, you need to submit financial and progress reporting throughout the project.
Accessing the funding
The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program provides funding throughout the project to reimburse eligible project expenses. Municipalities, towns and villages need to pay for project expenses before they can be reimbursed.
Eligibility
Municipalities, towns and villages can apply for funding.
The application needs to demonstrate that the project will provide clean drinking water, treat wastewater or reduce the release of pollutants to the environment.
Projects can be multi-year but need to be completed by 31 March 2027.
You need to apply for funding by 1 April 2022.
How to apply
- Apply online for the funding.
- Check the application for details on all required supporting documents.
- Complete the Project Application Summary Form (Green Environmental Quality stream), Budget Template and Aboriginal Consultation and Environmental Assessment Form.
- Submit your completed application and supporting forms and documents.
- Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing reviews your application after the submission deadline.
- Check your application status in the Grants Management System.
How long it takes
It should take 4 to 6 months for the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing to let you know if your funding application is approved. It can take longer if more information is needed or if your application hasn’t been filled in correctly.
Cost
There is no cost to apply for the funding, but you need to fund the balance of the project.
